Patches is a grid-dividing puzzle. The grid must be split into rectangular patches so that every square belongs to exactly one patch and every patch contains exactly one clue.

A number on a clue tells you how many squares that patch covers. The clue's shape tells you what kind of rectangle it must be: a square, a wide rectangle, a tall rectangle, or any rectangle when no shape is shown.

Begin with clues that have a large number or a strict shape near the edge of the grid; they usually fit in only one or two positions. Each patch you lock in removes options for its neighbors.
